Very interesting, in fact. That's a fairly creative way to get a meal, and it also demonstrates tool usage.

Question: Are those the ends of jesses I see around his legs? Is this a bird used in raptor demos or presentations?

this photo is actually taken during a show. Slammer is used in the afternoon shows almost every day, she flies out uses the rock to break a plaster of paris 'emu' egg gets some food and flies back home again
 
There's only two species of bird that demonstrate this behaviour - the black-breasted buzzard in Australia and the Egyptian Vulture in Africa.
