Slotved Skov Dyrehave - General view

Slotved Skov Dyrehave is the second biggest "dyrehave" (Danish equivalent of the British deer gardens, the word literally meaning "deer garden") in Denmark, spanning an area of 175 hectares. A small deer garden with fallow deer has existed in the Slotved Skov woods for years, but the current deer garden dates from March 2018 when the area was expanded more than tenfold, and red deer were released in the garden.

Slotved Skov is located near the small town of Sindal.

Though the animals are technically captive (being bred in another deer garden and kept in by cattle guards and fences), they live more or less like wild deer, and there's no guarantee of seeing any animals - I personally didn't see any red deer - so you should consider it a stroll in nature more than an animal-watching trip.

The nature in the area consists of a mix of woods, meadows, and fields. The middle of the deer garden is a regular asphalt road, technically making it a drive-through exhibit, though you can park your car in several places and walk along the many trails, the longest trail being 6 km.

June 2018.
