Apologies for the poor quality of this photo. It was taken from a mobile phone and features an animal which moves far quicker than its name would suggest!
This encounter was exciting as it marked only my second ever encounter with a reptile species native to the UK (after Barred Grass Snake), given that such species as Wall Lizard and Pond Terrapin which I often see are introduced and not found naturally in the UK.
