Small Bengal Tiger Enclosure - Mccarthy Wildlife Sanctuary

@ThylacineAlive Our guide explained that this tiger was originally in the larger habitat pictured here. He was rescued from a abusive magician, and had soars on his feet after the ordeal. Because of that when he was constantly running around the larger enclosure he often struggled to move the next day, so this enclosure was built so he can still move around but can refrain from injuring himself any further. Isn't the most pleasant thing either way, but is serves a purpose.

@pachyderm pro My point is I still fail to see how sanctuaries like this are seen as being any better than most zoos. It seems to be that they just have the word "sanctuary" in the name.

@ThylacineAlive Some "sanctuaries" that I've visited in the USA have been terrible, with small metal cages for many carnivores. Cat Tales Zoological Park in Spokane, Washington, mentions on its website that it has "rescued big cats and wildlife" but none of the enclosures are very impressive and in some cases the life of each animal has only been marginally improved.

@snowleopard Exactly. And then I recall a story about an elephant sanctuary where all of the animals were malnourished and ill. Yet you have all these wackos making petitions to get certain zoos closed and have their animals sent to these same places...

@ThylacineAlive I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments. The general public seems to give most sanctuaries a pass for having far worse enclosures for their animals then almost any major zoo, mainly because of how it’s claimed that all the animals are rescues and “a traditional zoo wouldn’t take them so we had to step in” or similar scenarios. Despite many of the tiny concrete cages and wood and wire pens, Mccarthy is ranked the #1 attraction in West Palm beach by trip advisor and the other people on the tour seemed thrilled with what they’ve seen. I enjoyed my time here but, If I had to choose between revisiting here and say zoo Miami, you already know what I’d choose.
