Surely these on the left are not viewed from this path, or are they? How does one see anything?

No, there are cul-de-sac viewpoints perpendicular to this path between each enclosure. Viewing is through glass panels and the furthest viewpoint is a sizeable log cabin. It's a nice set-up.

I can imagine that the sunken public path, then, keeps the throngs hidden from the viewing areas quite nicely.
