The Cincinnati Zoo's small cat house has about 15 species, which is an amazing number of tiny felines, and the indoor quarters there look similar to the stark indoor area found at the Wuppertal Zoo. However, the big difference between the two zoos is that at Wuppertal there are actually outdoor yards as well, which makes a huge difference in terms of quality of life for the animals.
The indoor small cat areas at Wuppertal are definitely best described as 'functional', but although not pretty offer plenty of hiding places (as I know only too well - was it five or six visits to the Black-footed cats to see one?). The outdoor areas are actually pretty good - they're planted out quite nicely.
