Hidden Wonders gallery
Also of note, the butterflies in the middle case labeled "3a" are the extinct Xerces blue Glaucopsyche xerces, which used to be found on the San Francisco Peninsula. 2a above contains the endangered Mission blue, Icaricia icarioides missionensis. 3b on the bottom contains the more common silvery blue Glaucopsyche lygdamus, which is the closest living relative to the Xerces blue and is being reintroduced to the Xerces blue's former range.
