South African Vervet

Anyone know the taxonomic status of the monkeys found in US zoos? In Europe most animals are listed as "grivet (sensu lato)" but these animals are listed as Vervets.

I believe the AZA program is pure C. p. pygerythrus. Although taxonomy muddles the name (common and scientific) from time to time, the population should be pure and is expanding in AZA zoos.

Not sure how relevant it is to what is in the AZA now, but the Vervets at Werribee in Australia were imported from the USA in 1996 (not sure from where exactly) and they are not pure. They were imported as C. aethiops and are now called C. pygerythrus johnstoni. See this post and those following it: Exotic Mammals in Australian Zoos
