I think you mistyped the title. By the looks of this I think you meant to put 1915.

What's that pit for in front of the exhibit barrier?

Looks nice to me, a fairly average size for a rhino barn, but I always appreciate older architecture!

@red river hog Im not sure as I dont know its history, but my guess is that it may have been used for elephants at one point in its past with a moat as the barrier.

They also have an outdoor space

@DelacoursLangur unfortunately this is most definitely not average size for a rhino barn. While the outdoor yard is quite sizeable and nicely done, the indoors in rather awful and I do wish the zoo could expand it in some capacity. As you mentioned, this house did once hold elephants and I do believe their indoors was larger (would have had to be).
