The nearest female is 'Pongola' she did/is having arthritis problems in the past few months, and has been helping the young females to settle in with new male 'Kai'.
History of Pongola
Pongola was born in 1970 and is/was the oldest female in the UK, she was imported from South Africa and arrived at the Park in 2003. Pongola is believed to have one of the longest horns ever recorded of a female Southern white rhinoceros.
Pongola and Miram [The next eldest female] have been mixed with three males and not reared any calves from them, I believe they are Kai, Otzee and another male which I'm not quite sure on.
