The director (he is the director of zoo and Tierpark) thinks too much stuff in the enclosures are not good and enrichment is rubbish... that says all...
@snowleopard: As soon as Omaha upgrades its carnivore house, Brooksfield its "Tropical World", San Francisco its tiger exhibits, Lincoln Park its pygmy hippo or mandrill enclosures...or San Diego its rabbit cages or various grottos. The list could get on and on...without actually leading anywhere.
While I do not follow the argument that we should not criticise on this forum, I do find it odd that you are so virulent in your criticism of a zoo which you have not been to, and can thus only judge through photos.
The spectacled bears do pretty well at the Tierpark. It's not the best enclosure in the world, but it's a long way from the worst.
Just in front of the exhibit is a deep, wide ,dry moat, that the bears entered after I took the photo, to beg for food from the watching public. We had only just entered the zoo at this point and I was desperately hoping the rest of the zoo was not like this.

I often critisize enclosures here at ZooChat based only on a photo. When the photo shows the whole (or most part) pf the enclosure in question, I think it is totally reasonable to do so. Eventually, one might make the odd mistake, but in general i believe the approach is totally OK.
