Please tell me that this is not the entirety of the space available to these two hyenas. Does the little opening in the bottom right-hand corner lead to a larger exhibit? Also, is that a leopard or some kind of cat in the adjacent cage?
It's an African Wild Dog in the identical adjacent cage.
There is an indoor area but this is their outdoor exhibit. It speaks for itself, but I would point out that this is NOT representative of the zoo as a whole. There are just a few of these cages left in an area that is currently undergoing some renovation. When I visited last year I think these enclosures were off-show, so I don't know if the animals within were there before.
I'm hoping to write up a few remarks about what has changed at the zoo in the last year in the next few days.
