There are so many excellent otter exhibits in American zoos, and at first glance I thought that this would be the 20th or so top-class habitat...but then I saw the damn slide. Some folks might think that it is cute but I strongly feel as if playground equipment in exhibits for otters, gorillas or other animals destroys any positive feelings that I might have towards the exhibit. I wonder what percentage of people would agree with me? My wild guess is that 90% of the general public would not mind the slide at all, while perhaps only 20% of ZooChatters would enjoy the prospect of Fisher-Price toys in zoo enclosures.
To be honest its not a big deal to us here its not like the exhibit has been turned into a daycare center or anything. We have actually seen otters using their slide at the Virginia Zoo.Another example of perhaps a over the top playschool type exhibit would be the indoor bonobo exhibit at the Columbus Zoo however they have one of the best outdoor exhibits around and they make wonderful use of their indoor playground.
