There is apparently some debate on whether the animals that have recently landed across South-east Asia from Brazilian shipments are indeed true P. corruscans, or instead what is known as cachandiá, a hybrid catfish of Pseudoplatystoma spp. and Leiarius spp.
These animals are said to originate from the Río São Francisco.
