Statue of Bonzo the Gorilla

Much as I love Dudley, this is pretty grim: the awful statue, the tatty sign, the thoughtless setting. And that name, "Bonzo" - it's not the most dignified.....

Absolutely. His proper name was 'Bukhama' and he was a handsome animal. 'Bonzo' always makes me think the late Vivian Stanshall*.

The sculpture is not too good, it would look better out of doors and set high up (ideally very, very high up). And as for that giraffe-skin pattern tablecloth . . . .

The sculpture does not capture his looks at all. Your photo of him is very typical- he was quite small but 'feisty' in temperament. A high turnover of staff in those days meant he was not very well 'trained' to zoo routines, and so was quite difficult to manage also.

....Bonzo the Gorilla

On the other hand, I quite like the picture of a Red-billed Pintail.

For the umpteenth time, I'm wishing Zoochat had a 'like' facility!
