Striated herons green-backed herons are the American subspecies (or a separate species...)

My field guide (Birds of Kenya & Northern Tanzania by Dale A. Zimmerman, Donald A. Turner, and David J. Pearson) says "GREEN-BACKED or STRIATED HERON Butorides striatus atricapillus" as the heading for the species, so I just went with the first name.

Looking elsewhere, you are of course correct.
