This is Yoko, the last Striped Hyena at Hamura City Zoo. This female was born in 2007 and was transferred to Hamura in 2009.

It deceased in May 2024 at the age of 17. This photo was shot on March 2024, 1 month before it lost health.

Hamura no longer holds this species, leaving Fuji Safari Park to be the only holder in Japan.

@Rohin
Thanks! She was such a beauty!

Unfortunately, Fuji Safari Park does not announce a lot about the number and names of its animals. There were at least 5 Striped Hyenas back in 2010, and it bred in 2014.

Currently, only 1 individual seems to be on exhibit, which is the male born there in 2014.

There may be more in the backyard or may be on exhibit on a routine, but there is little information.
