Orangutans are arguably the most difficult mammal to build a zoo exhibit for. Even in 2022, with a brand-new enclosure as part of a hugely expensive complex, this appears to be a mediocre exhibit. Too much water, too few climbing opportunities, etc. Some parts of the Orientarium look to be spectacular, but not this orangutan exhibit.
@snowleopard Surrounding areas are not completely finished, yet. I don't think that the Elephants or the Orangutans have been in their outdoor exhibits, yet. Currently the Elephants have only one small holding yard outside. It will take some time until the area starts to look as a part of the whole complex.
I'm sure that the zoo will see a massive increase in attendance due to this new Asian complex, which will mean more money pouring into the zoo's finances. Adding elephants and orangutans, along with all the other animals, is truly exciting. In the big scheme of things, the Orientarium is an amazing addition to Lodz, but us zoo nerds are picky when we analyze new exhibits. Ha!
