Illinois's Miller Park Zoo and California's Charles Paddock Zoo appear to be having a competition to see which is the worst AZA-accredited zoo for tigers. This exhibit is dire, and in all honesty it's difficult to see how these zoos maintain their accreditation status with shoebox-sized big cat enclosures. The big animal building in the background has been around for well over a century. It opened in 1914.
Woah this is worse than I remembered... Is this the former sun bear enclosure? As far as I remember the tigers used to be exhibited at the very end of the path, where it dead ends, however, that now seems to be home to the zoo's francois langurs. Does anyone know the exact sizes of the spaces? I wonder why they made the switch and when?
@ZooNerd1234 This ghastly tiger exhibit does indeed look like the old Sun Bear exhibit. Here is my photo from 2014 (when there was a sun bear in the enclosure):
@ZooNerd1234 Everything you said is correct. The current species lineup for this antiquated building from the beginning of the path to the dead end is Sumatran tiger, mueller's gibbon, snow leopard and Francois langur in that order.
