Sun Bear Exhibit - Minnesota Zoo

Either its the angle of the picture or you need to see more sun bear exhibits. But that looks like a pretty decent enclosure...especially for one built thirty years ago. Look at all of those props!

I was thinking the same thing...the photo makes the exhibit look much larger then it truly is. In reality I was quite disappointed with the size, and I've seen maybe 10 sun bear exhibits. This enclosure was actually the first one that I've been to that doesn't have an outdoor area.

According to the zoo's website there are no more sun bears at the zoo, and looking through the list of animals in the Tropics Trail it appears that perhaps binturongs are in this exhibit now.

Good news everyone, this exhibit is no longer home to Sun Bears!!!! The exhibit is currently empty, but renovations are being made to this area of Tropic Trails! They plan on adding more African species into this exhibit. Some species that are planned are fruit bats, dwarf crocodiles, colobus monkeys, and red river hogs. The "planned" opening is summer 2010!
*snowleopard- the binturong is mixed with the tapirs!

"Faces of the African Forest" opened in early 2010, and so this old sun bear enclosure looks vastly different and contains a plethora of wild creatures (monkeys, crocodiles, birds) that from what I've heard significantly improves the Tropics Trail rainforest building.
