TWPZ now mostly refer to the Przewalski's Horses as Takhi. Usually that kind of thing annoys me, it makes things too confusing, but I prefer it in this case. It's a fun name, and the kids definitely liked it better because they could actually say it.
@akasha It’s interesting what different names there are for species in our zoos. I always say PWH. Another one is Blackbuck. I always call them Indian antelope, but zoos use the more commonly used Blackbuck - usually to prevent people from questioning why an Indian species is vibing on the Savannah.
@Zoofan15 Yeah, they are always called Blackbuck here, for that reason I'm sure. Another one is the Greater One-horned Rhino. I always call them Indian Rhino, but I used GOHR here because that's what all the signage at the zoo says. It's a bit of a mouthful though.
@akasha Oh yeah, I always say Indian rhinoceros. I often use Wikipedia as a guide when writing on here (as that can be edited by anyone with scientific back up to argue the toss) re. the correct name of the animal; but the one I consistently say wrong is Tasmanian tiger. It was the name I heard used for them as a kid in the 2000’s in the media etc. and it’s stuck with me for some reason over Thylacine.
