Tanganyikan Broad-banded Spiny Eel (Mastacembelus ellipsifer)

Common name derived from the German name for this species (Breitschwarz Gebänderter Stachelaal), as there are just way too many "Tanganyikan Spiny Eels" out there!

Photobombed by Mizu my Tiger Moray (Gymnothorax polyuranodon) and a Lepidiolamprologus elongatus.

@Ebirah766 ironically, I would KILL to have access to the amount of East African fish you guys have!

Malawi/Tanganyika has never had a solid foothold in Singapore's ornamental scene, and as someone who has been specialising in East Africa and Madagascar species for close to 10 years in Singapore, it can be VERY frustrating! A lot of the cichlid species are way overpriced here for what they are, and to get anything other than cichlids, such as my spiny eels, is almost impossible!

For example, not too long ago I had placed an order for Ptychochromis insolitus, 15 fingerlings going for nearly 200 SGD each, only to end up with all of them D.O.A. And the worst part is the vendor did not even attempt to bring in any new ones subsequently.

@BucerosKeeper
That's true, but a lot of the Tanganyikan and Malawi species have been becoming rarer and rarer. Like for example, I haven't ever seen a Boulengerochromis in a fish store here.
