I would be interested to hear about about the interaction of species in this new exhibit. From what I have read earlier, several of the species will have access to the elephant enclosure (though, naturally, not vice versa )
I believe the guanacos, pronghorn, and camels will be given access to the elephant exhibits at times, but not sure how often or when this will start, assuming it hasn't.
My point exactly Zooplantman. The exhibit looks great until the bars, steel doors and brick building in the background. Why not hide all of that from visitors?

I'm not so sure ANY part of this exhibit "looks great." Even the "natural" elements are tossed in without care or attention to detail. All of the "rocks" look like something you would stick a garden gnome under, the "riverbanks" are straight as an arrow and have nice rectilinear openings for animal doors, squared-off "caves" etc. Everything about EO is just a jumbled mess.
As Zooplantman says, there is no beauty here. A great representation of an Asian forest or even a Pleistocene California landscape were/are entirely possible to pull off in San Diego. So might have been a non-naturalistic but cleanly-done series of animal exhibits showcasing elephant husbandry (for example Copenhagen). None of this was achieved in EO. What a lost opportunity.
@reduakari: don't forget that the zoo only had $45 millon to spend, their largest financial purchase ever. Oh well, next up for the zoo is the Tiger Trails habitat at the Wild Animal Park.

Hey, I'm no fan of Copenhagen Zoo's elephant house but it sure looks better then this! It least ours isn't completely covered in metal but was attempted to somehow be disguised in the landscape.
It is just a shame that two such big zoos as Copenhagen and San Diego doesn't set the bar a bit higher...
