@ThylacineAlive amazingly yes! I was lucky enough to pass by at least once when they were awake each day (though I also did pass by while they were sleeping each day as well).
@ThylacineAlive That was the exact same situation with me during my two days at the zoo in 2017. Wonderful animals...but difficult to see awake! Thankfully I had a great viewing experience at the Los Angeles Zoo on the same trip.
@snowleopard I have been to the LA Zoo twice now (2016 and 2018) and both times I found their animals wide awake. I discussed this with @ShonenJake13 when we visited Duisburg (where they were extremely active, running around throughout our time at the enclosure) and he experienced a similar situation in Europe where at some zoos the devils are always active and at others they are almost always sleeping.
That's an interesting observation. I had the opposite luck compared to @snowleopard and @ThylacineAlive when I was at the LA zoo as the devils showed almost no activity. Granted, I only spent one day there. But the first time I went by there was no signs of life and on the second pass one got up for a moment and then sprawled out and instantly fell back asleep.
