The bushdog cage

There was a second cage near that one, same size, same stile. One of this two glass cages were used for clouded leopards, they bred in here almost every year. The last one died in 1988. There were two little outdoor cages behind the scenes. After his death, both cages were used for the bushdogs.

Bush dogs are amazingly rare animals in North American zoos, and I've only seen them once in my life. The Oklahoma City Zoo has a few in two connected enclosures that are probably 50 times larger than the two little tanks at the Frankfurt Zoo. But I suppose at least at the Frankfurt Zoo the bush dogs can always be seen a few inches away while in Oklahoma City the habitats are so large that it is easy to lose sight of the mammals.

It would be nice if zoos building South American exhibits would include Bushdogs in their exhibits.

at the Frankfurt Zoo the bush dogs can always be seen a few inches away (...)

Not "can", but "could" as past tense. As Zebraduiker mentioned, this-just as various other exhibits of Frankfurt Zoo (the old big cat cages, the gerenuks or exhibits in the 'Rundbau') does no longer exist. Currently, Frankfurt doesn't keep Bush Dogs.

I've posted here some pics of the older exhibits to demonstrate what happend in the last past years at the Zoo...
