Essentially, the animals of the zoo are falling under a wicked spell which makes them sleepy. Visitors (primarily children) collect magic purple sand from locations around the zoo and in groups, use their sand to access and then solve a simple puzzle that reverses the spell, thereby saving the zoo.
I quite liked last year's version and in 2017 the premise is essentially the same, but this year there seem to be longer queues to collect sand and fewer performers, especially when accessing the final area (trying not to give too much away here). The performers are good but need some diversity, it's all a bit middle-class 'jolly hockey-sticks'.
