Deer Forest

the first specimen of Qinling Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis)

Are there really different subspecies of giant panda? This is the first I have heard of it.
there are two subspecies, the nominate (which is most Giant Pandas) and the Qinling Mountains subspecies which is smaller, with distinctive skull and teeth, and with different colouration.

The abstract of the original description of the Qinling subspecies can be seen here: JSTOR: An Error Occurred Setting Your User Cookie
