The former silverback Efata at Kolmården with his son Enzo on the roof. This house was Efata’s favourite place in the enclosure and he spent the days sleeping in there or watching his group from the house. He wasn’t often seen outside of that house. In 2014 the gorilla enclosure was completely rebuilt and extended, but of course they needed to keep Efata’s house from the old enclosure. This photo was taken in 2014 and later this year Efata died of heart failure.
On the roof is his son Enzo, born 2006, which was the first gorilla to be born in Sweden. When Efata died he took over as leader even if he was too young. He immediately moved into his father’s house. Enzo has now become a silverback and leads the group, and he looks like a copy of Efata. Enzo’s younger brother Echo and his mother Naomi have been sent to other zoos and Enzo has got two new females. In the park is also the older female Iris, which has been in the park for several decades. In September 2020 Enzo got his first offspring, a female named Kione. This was the third gorilla to be born in Sweden, after Enzo and his brother Echo.
