Right that explains a few things then!So the keeping staff will be looking after the garden so that zoo doesn't have to employ any more gardeners!!

No one ever wants to pay the gardener:rolleyes:
I suppose the herbs are to be used for enrichment purposes for the animals rather than the public/cafe.

I remember a while ago reading about a zoo that grew herbs in trays that were then placed in a gorilla enclosure and secured with a metal grill over the top so the apes could pick the leaves as grew through when they wanted them but not destroy the plants . They were replaced periodically to allow variation and the plants to recover. Can any one recall the zoo?

I think that several zoos have tried this with a variety of primates. There was an apparatus like this in the old woolly monkey enclosure at Twycross.

Thanks Alan I should have known if one did it they would all follow suit I wonder how successful it was, Rather hassle to maintain I would think.
