The LA Zoo rebuilt its parking lot so that rainfall will run into the strips of vegetation between the rows of cars and recharge the ground water rather than running off into the ocean. The vegetation consists of native California plant species. When full grown the oaks will provide abundant shade and wildlife habitat. The LA Zoo is a certified botanical garden also so the parking lot is really an exhibit as well as a parking lot.
