The pole has been moved. The bear pit building is now the aquarium (just to the right of this) - the central Amazon tank with a tunnel was originally the actual pit itself.

I was oblivious to the bear pole for many years, despite walking past it many times. I often point it out now and it's amazing how many people have missed it.

I noticed it had disappeared during the Christmas break!! I couldn't see it anywhere :(

Pleased to report the pole was present and correct today, but in a slightly altered location (there's been a massive garden clean-out in this area too):

EDIT: Just noticed comparing the two shots that the cross-pieces are still missing, and it seems to have been shortened. Odd.

I suppose a hacked about poll is better than no poll at all, but it's disappointing that the zoo isn't treating it with a little more respect.

Also disappointing is that they couldn't be bothered to reply to my E-mail enquiry, a poor show from Bristol.
