It's amazing at what a difference the wood makes on this exhibit. A large metal cage, which can admittedly be good for primates sometimes, somehow becomes softer and less harsh with the addition of the wood. It's almost as if there is bark on a tree and the enclosure is now much more visually appealing.
Even with a significant delay, Sofia managed to renovete their Carnivore and Primate areas and started to take some steps in the right direction. A female Snow Leopard just arrived to join the male Niks and some other interesting species joined the collection. Hopefully they will start thinking about the old concrete Bear grottos and the "Pachiderm" house and to get the full EAZA membership.
