The squirrels I get in my garden certainly are not stupid . I did notice that when the snow was quite deep last month they did not appear as usual .
As an 'animal lover' I do have problems and not good feelings towards most mammals visiting my garden - the squirrels trying to wreck the bird feeders , moles making a mess of my lawn , wood mice getting at the bird food in the garage ( my fault for not securing it better ) and chewing seat cushions , the fox dug up the grass snake eggs in the compost heap . I suppose I should be thankful to have them around . The occasionally seen bats are fine though .
