The severe drought conditions have had a huge effect on the numbers of these birds. On a very recent trip outback I only saw a few. In areas where normally there would many emus there are now only a few to be seen. Of the ones I did see there were always a good number of chicks, and the conditions were very good, so it will not take long for the numbers to increase again.
