This is a Patagonian Cavy!!!!

Listen up all you whippersnappers who call this species the Mara. For many years most people in the UK were happy to call it the Patagonian Cavy - a name resonant of its natural haunts I think (Mara conjures up Africa I'd say). I still call it the Patagonian Cavy and shall continue to do so! The alternative name of Patagonian Hare is better than Mara too (the last time I visited Edinburgh the species was labelled thus), but of course it isn't a Hare!
