Many of the San Antonio Zoo's hoofstock are in these god-awful enclosures that are as ugly as anything in North America. What is the educational value, or even the entertainment value, of having animals degraded against fake backgrounds?
Believe it or not, but I like the antelope exhibits shown in this photograph better then the new hippo exhibit, I wish that San Antonio Zoo still had Thomsons gazelles, Jacksons hartebeests, Cokes hartebeests and the other antelope species that they had in the past, the exhibits shown in this photo are actually suitable and spacious

Sorry, but for once I can't agree with you. Although I also miss the Thomsons, Jacksons and Cokes, I must say that these exhibits are not adequate for gazelles and mostly also not for bigger antelope species. The walls are - even when the concrete steps breaking the speed - very dangerous for such fast running species (Beside that, range-like ground isn't really a natural habitat for the Thommies). I have also my doubts if the enclosures were/are big enough (From my memory, I won't consider them "spacious").
But the question is: Where (within the ground of San Antonio Zoo), could be built a good savannah habitat for gazelles and antilopes WITHOUT phasing out other (important ABC-)species?
