Not as good a picture as I hoped as the lens was steamed and by the time it was in any fit state to use the butterflies had moved out of position slightly.
This photograph shows three species [and I intended it would show the outer wing patterning for each].
Leftmost is a Giant owl butterfly [Caligo memnon] - these have one large, yellow eye from which their common name is derived. They are also the more mottled brown of the three.
In the middle [hanging on the side] is the Purple mort bleu [Eryphanis polyxena]. These look to have plain, light brown outer wings, though in the same location that an owl butterfly has the 'eye,' the mort bleu has a smaller, indistinct and uncolourful eye that appears as if it's been sliced diagonally across.
Finally, on the right, is the Peleides blue morpho [Morpho peleides] - This has outer wings that are a very dark brown, and it has a single 'large' eye at the back-centre of its wing, with three smaller eyes above and three smaller eyes below.
