Tibetan Black Bear

I take it there's a glass barrier between this animal & the railing?

This is really unfortunate bear is chained and visitors are photographed with him. You can see a lot of photos on the web. Unenviable fate. There were two other bear in a small cage, but I have to check about their coloration.

Terrible situation (chained up), but very interesting color morph.

Still, it is situations like this that give zoos a bad name.

Unfortunatelly a very typical situation for Thai zoos - non members of local Zoo Association. Chained elephants, tigers, leopards, monkeys...

All it would take to put an end to it is for people to stop visiting places like that. Sadly, from what I have read the general population of many Asian countries have little regard for animal welfare. :(

Maybe do not take a pictures with these animals first

Never seen a Himalayan Black bear that isn't Black before. I wonder how common this (or other) Morph is. Is it local to the Tibetan part of its range perhaps?

You can see the chain is fixed behind the poor animal's back.
