Good to see him tackling the Forest!

Did you say the word 'Forest'?:D

I still hate this.:mad: It is, in my opinion, quite the worst modern enclosure(the outdoors) built for Orangutans just about anywhere that I know of..

He's probably never seen a tree, unless he was looking out of the window during his trip from Twycross to Colchester :(

There are a couple of (very dead) tall trees in the orang enclosure at Twycross. Tiga would have had quite a view of the living trees dotted about outside from the top of those ..... which I am sure would have been of great comfort to him !

I can’t believe I donated £30 towards the construction of this:eek:. Poor Rajang waited for years for a new enclosure to be built only to end up with a sub standard enclosure. Why are the outside walls solid and so high? This prevents (as mentioned) the animals having any sort of a view. Would be better to close the top of the enclosure and raise the sides with mesh to facilitate views and would also allow more climbing structures to be added. Am sure most zoochaters could design a better enclosure than this!

After years of talk about building a new enclosure it is a disappointing design and result. Could not understand why when waiting in the wings with this project they chose to spend money on the construction of the komodo and sea lion exhibit plus the new penguin/spider monkey area beside others. Why was this project shelved for so long?! My cynical mind believes the budget for this development was cut due to the previous works and therefore the overall design and quality was compromised.
I could never understand either why they chose to construct the orang enclosure here, surely there are other areas of the zoo where it could have been located. Such as by the lake where the lemurs are located and Geladas, would have meant a juggling of the collection but would have been worth it to create a better exhibit.

Rant over LOL!:D

That would have been a far better location. There are some TREES there and an island -type outside could have been constructed incoporating one or two of them to give a better, more natural feel. The name 'Forest' might have been a little more appropriate then.

I find it amazing Colchester came up with this design and were happy with its construction.

The sealion pool is superb and COlchester have every reason to be proud of it. The komodoe dragons were actually desperately needing a new exhibit from where they had been before Colchester. Also that area of the zoo was becoming very shabby and desperately needed a new exhibit put its in place, so I don't think Colchester was at all mistaken it what it decided to build.
