@Zebraduiker: thanks for posting so many photos over the last few days, and you are picking up the slack from my massive output last week. Is that a tiger in the centre of this photo, just to the right of the big tree? I like the lush exhibit, but it probably doesn't contain a lot of land area.
@snowleopard. No problem, I've seen not very muche xhibit pictures in the Zoo Berlin gallery, so I wanted to change it. The zoo is not that bad what so many people think about it.
Yes, its an indochinese tiger. For several years, tehy used this exhibit for Bao-Bao, the last giant panda, unfortunately, I was not in berlin at this time, but some people told me, he enjoyed this spaciuos exhibit with the huge pool, he love dto bath in in the water, he could hide before the vistors if he wanted and had more enrichment than in his old, small glass cage. So it really pitty, they put him back to the old cage and get new tigers from the Animal Park. Okay, he is now more than 30 years old, he has not very much time left, and I think, the zoo will not get new pandas, especially, if they would keep them also in the old exhibit. But they won't, and the zoos has no money and no place for an own giant panda house, so I think, the question if the zoo will get new pandas after Bao-Bao's gone is answered...
Does Berlin Zoo breed their indochinese tigers? If so, I agree that it is better to have endangered tigers breeding here, than a lone male panda living out his otium here.
No, they don't breed. The female came from the Animalpark Berlin, I think, she was original in 1996 imported female, so she can't breed, and the male was born at Halle Zoo.I'm not 100 % sure, I have to look in the annual reports.
And the Animalpark has now offspring from halle ? I thought, tehy have send the youngsters to Prag,Dortmund and Usti nad Labem. So the female, which the animalpark has imported in 1996, is still there ? Or is she dead ?
Tierpark has now 1,1 from Halle.
The female 'Shima' who was imported 1996 died last year.
Both the female 'Raila' and the male in the zoo came from the Tierpark. The male 2005, the female 2007.
