Tina and Jewel

On my visit yesterday, this was the first time I had ever observed an elephant actually run across their exhibit space at the L.A. Zoo. It was as Tina and Jewel were making their way over from the Cambodia yard to the China yard to see Billy, with only a closed gate separating him from the girls. Quite a unique experience. It was only one of the females that I observed running, as she went to catch up with the other.

I know one is considered a bit more attached to Billy than the other, but I forget which. I'm sure mstickmanp or polar bear can refresh my memory there. Says something though of the expanded acreage of their new habitat. And this was not an instance of being spooked by any means.

From what I've seen, Tina is the one more attached to Billy.

BTW, thanks for all the pictures!

Thanks Mario, so apparently Jewel didn't want to be left behind. She literally raced after Tina from the middle of the yard, and down the pathway leading to the China yard after her.
Her brakes are working quite well. Lol.
