The Aquarium is next to be renovated after the Pachyderm expansion, which I am not thrilled about. I wish the Zoo would retool the building into an Amphibian Conservation Center and build a brand-new mega aquarium. Wishful thinking I guess. :l

Would really be surprised if they changed the original exterior of the Aquarium.Toledo seems to embrace its history.The Carnivore Cafe and the copper top of the old Giraffe House turned into a soda machine gazebo are good examples of this.As far as a Brand new aquarium is concerned its in no way feasible,but like the fact that your thinking big we are always doing the same thing with our zoo here in Cleveland.Another project we would like Toledo to look into would be a revamped Asia Zone for its tigers,sloth bears and snow leopards.
Interestingly enough when the aquarium opened in 1939 it was the largest freshwater aquarium in the world (that title more than likely currently being held by Tennessee Aquarium) and it cost $312,000 to construct.

The largest freshwater aquarium at this time was the London Aquarium, which means, it had the most species and, of course, more water volumne than Toledo Aquarium. Its not unuasally, so much aquariums gives themselfs the title"the largest",it's a good working marketing concept to get more visitors. In europe, we have so many"largest aquarium in europe", so in Genua,Valencia, Barcelona, Brest, and in the future, the new Copenhagen Aquarium. By the way, Valencia Oceanografic contains 44 Million liters of water, which makes it to the largest aquarium in the world, and to the largest aquarium in europe.
