Toledo Zoo - Hippoquarium

July 2008. Nice exhibit, but not as good as San Diego's hippo pool.

This looks like a very spacious habitat, you said this was one of the few great quality exhibits in the zoo right?

This exhibit is partly why the Toledo Zoo is famous in Ohio, as the hippoquarium opened in 1987 and I believe was the first underwater hippo viewing in all of North America. It had the first ever underwater birth of a hippo as well, and the pool is quite large. I still think that San Diego's pool is more naturalistic, but Toledo's hippo exhibit is still very nice after more than 20 years.
