Grassmere Historic Farm & Home: Tombstone of the wife of W.D. Shute. March 16, 2019. The zoo still maintains a separate portion of the grounds for the historic plantation home of the family who originally owned Grassmere farm. Here the original house, two small graveyards (one for the family, one unmarked for slaves), a slave house, various historic tools found on the zoo's grounds, and a small replica farm can be viewed by the public.
