Absolutely spectacular shot - congratulations! Lisbon Zoo is not to be missed by the true zoo fan. Plenty to love & plenty to criticize and certainly one of the most individual zoos to be found anywhere.One to visit if you ever get the feeling that you have seen it all.
Thanks - as is so often the case there was a hefty dose of luck involved - shot off a couple of dozen okapi shots trusting I'd get at least one good one. In the end this was one of my favourite shots of the day!

I really enjoyed it. I think part of this is because from what little visual material I'd seen and the rather sparse map I was expecting a much less interesting and pleasant site and a much smaller collection (in particular the bird and monkey collections look tiny on the map, but are really very good). And I lvoed the little cable cars - for once I enjoyed there being animals you only saw from the ride - I think because they weren't advertised - they just appeared halfway round! Makes it feel more like a bonus and less like a cheat. It's all in the mind.
If someone were looking for a zoo weekend away from the more 'traditional' zoo countries of central Europe, I'd certainly recommend Lisbon, with its fascinating zoo and two very different aquariums - the shiny, flashy, brilliant, stunning Oceanarium and the deliciously old-school and scientific Vasco da Gama, with its native marine invertebrate gallery one of my favourite aquarium rooms. And it's a very fine city, too.
