Toronto Zoo - Tiger Exhibit

July 2008. Quite a nice enclosure, complete with a fairly deep pool.

So is it true that this has officially been confirmed as the exhibit for the upcoming giant pandas? Beginning in spring 2013 Toronto will have a pair of pandas for 5 years, and then they will jet off to Calgary Zoo from 2018-2023.

Yes, this exhibit will be renovated to suit the pandas. If the pandas produce offspring within the 5 year stay, the pandas will remain at the zoo until they are ready to be moved to Calgary.

I believe Quartz mentioned that one tiger will be held in the Animal Care Center, while the other in one of the holding pens at the Sumatran tiger exhibit, therefore no tiger cubs will be produced within the 5 year stay.

Correction, yes this will become ONE part of the new panda exhibit with a huge addition on the other side of the house. Tatiana will be moved to the "breeding yard" in Indo-Malaya and Vitali to the WHC. The two siberian tigers we had were never supposed to breed however the sumatran tiger breeding plan is still up in the air right now.

5 years is quite awhile to house these tigers behind the scenes. Is there any consideration to loaning them out to another zoo?

The female siberian tiger will be in the sumatran tiger breeding exhibit in Indo-Malaya, which is larger then the current exhibit that they have now. The photo above is just the maternity den of the siberian tiger exhibit. I would assume that they would ship vitali out to find a new home but as of right now that is the current status of the two siberian tigers until a future home is found. That is what I meant by what I said.
