Tuaran Crocodile Farm

Far and away the most bizarre zoo visit of my life. Former inhabitants had been mounted in an array of odd poses, the obligatory man-pokes-croc show was accompanied by the Gladiator theme followed by the Aqua classic 'Barbie Girl', and my taxi driver followed me around the whole park in silence. He seemed to like civets.

Any chance you could provide some more info on this place? Review or even just species list?

One of my guides in Sabah liked civets, he kept saying how good they tasted... :(

Honestly, it wouldn’t really be worth reviewing even if I had photos/notes to work from. However, from what I remember…

  • It's 40 minutes outside Kota Kinabalu and easily combined with the UMS Aquarium & Marine Museum (which I've now found my notes for).
  • The crab-eating macaque and binturong enclosures both included a mature tree and looked new.
  • Around ten civets (Malayan, common palm and possibly other species) were kept in a fairly small cage with insufficient privacy.
  • Two Asian short-clawed otter exhibits were small, mostly concrete and lacked swimming space.
  • A single ostrich was minimally contained; its enclosure looked "homemade" to say the least.
  • A row of aviaries (standard inhabitants) were well-sized but falling over.
  • The two main crocodile enclosures were fairly large and traversed by bridges. They were actually quite good, if overcrowded. There were also around 20 individual concrete pits, a couple of which held tomistoma.
  • The butterfly walk-though was pleasant but lacked butterflies.
  • There were several concrete koi ponds.

A Google Image search shows a lot of what I've described: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=t...jMLLAhWDAJoKHSdlBscQ_AUICCgC&biw=1242&bih=606.

To summarize: not as bad as it could be, but pretty bad.
