@TinoPup I was lucky to get this close, my guide had said he’s very flighty so I managed to snap a few away before he sprinted off I don’t know how much longer the herd will be at the Safari Park due to their reduction in hoofstock species recently Thank you btw!
@John Marchwick The AZA/SSP has decided to phase out this species as there are very few holders, in fact, I think SDZSP may be the only public holder of the species. The remaining animals in the North American population should be in the private sector which is where these guys are likely going. As unfortunate as it may be, I don't blame the park for wanting to focus on a smaller group of species and have more success rather than having tons of species where several of them are struggling to sustain their populations. I've been doing a bit of research to count how many ungulates the park has currently and even with all the phase-outs, the park should still have roughly 40-50 Artiodactyls and 6 Perrisodactyls.
@Animals R AMAZING! They're definitely the only public holder, and I've yet to find any documented ones in the private sector. I hope them moving to private at least leads to the species becoming more popular there, and eventually being brought back to zoos.
