Umbrella Cockatoo

Cacatua alba. Quite a noisy fellow. Not sure what they were doing in this random home-style bird cage next to the ruffed lemurs. July 2015

I never understand why a zoo would put parrots in this style cage when they could easily and cheaply build sufficient avairys for them!

It does also send off a very negative message to visitors: "Hey, if a zoo can keep a parrot under such inadequate housing conditions, so can we!" Modern zoos should lead by example.

There is a flight cage for the cockatoos. I didn't post a picture of it because it was already in the gallery, but it's located inside the Australian walk-through. This cage was outside the exit next to the ruffed lemurs. I don't know why this bird wasn't in there.
