This exhibit looks really good! I think they should expand the area under Wild Africa to add more African antelope species to their collection. Are there any plannings to do so?
@Chapman'szebra I did hear of some possible plans to expand Wild Africa back in 2017, but personally am not too certain of the project.
Wildlife Reserves used to harbour a staggering number of grand African bovids in its collection consisting of southern eland, red hartebeests, both bontebok & blesbok (if I'm not mistaken), white-tailed gnu, greater kudu, springbok, Thomson's gazelle, Nile & Kafue lechwe, impala(?), scimitar oryx and gemsbok.
Alongside smaller species like blue and red duikers.
Most of these species have either succumbed to natural causes, or were phased out during the late 2000s for space reasons. Admittedly, would love to see some of them return...
@Casuarius_casuarius of the African bovids you listed, can you tell me which species were kept at the zoo and which ones were kept at the Night Safari? Now that the WRS parks have been added to Zootierliste, I am trying to add the proper entries for former holdings.
@Casuarius_casuarius another African bovid formerly kept at the Singapore Zoo were Aoudad/Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia). I suspect you also remember those?
Ik this is old but ya almost got me thinking the nyala was coming back to the zoo. Then again, Grevy's zebras are much more aggressive than plains zebras so I'm not sure if the nyala will last well
